We are saddened to share the passing of Bill Northern, an internationally respected animal communicator and a cherished presence in the equestrian world.
In gratitude for his profound impact—especially his extraordinary gift for “hearing” horses—the Virginia Horse Center honored Bill in 2011 by naming the Northern Arena in Lexington, Virginia after him. That arena, with its bluestone-and-sand footing, stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy, at the heart of horse sport in the region.

Bill brought horses’ inner lives into clearer view for countless people—on the racetrack, in private barns, and through his heartfelt storytelling. He offered healing, insight, and a deeper bond between humans and the animals they love.
He gave voice to all creatures with compassion, clarity, and reverence—and always a touch of humor. From racetracks to pastures, from riders to readers, Bill’s work touched lives across generations and continents. His legacy lives on in the stories he told and the peace he helped others find.

We at Honey House Press are honored to have been part of his publishing journey. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who loved and learned from him.

Personally, this loss runs deep. Bill was a childhood friend of my father and a vivid figure in my own early memories. Years later, he helped launch Honey House Press. He didn’t just ask for a book. He insisted. I’m grateful he did.
We will forever cherish and continue sharing the wisdom he gifted this world.
Within the arena that bears his name, may he rest gently, surrounded by the animals he so deeply understood.
